Hi!

I live in Portland, Oregon, where I bike commute, attend all the greenie events, attend artsy events and blog for the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art each September, and just generally know a lot of people.

My hometown is Telluride, Colorado.

Each year I get a terrible travel itch, and it sends me to places like Israel with a friend, Croatia for a month by bike (including Montenegro and Sarajevo, all gorgeous), Torino Italy for the Winter Olympics, a private villa in Lucca, Italy (subsidized, for a birthday party)…and much more. A big, maybe the biggest, goal of mine is to travel for work that influences or aids others.

Bits:

  • I am distantly related to P.G. Wodehouse, yes, but it’s distant.
  • In The Atlantic game Word Fugitives I got runner up for coining Sentropy
  • I am applying for Chilean citizenship, because my father was born there so it should be easy, and also because: Why not?
  • I have two cats, and a fantasy to write for Cat Fancy.
  • Once, I was asked what about myself I was most proud of. My answer: I’ve said yes to every major adventure that’s come my way. And it’s been worth it.

Project sites that do not exist yet (all are .com):

Isolate Yourself in a Rural Area with a Dog We Provide –Pictures of dogs, pictures of rural areas. I envision this a little like a slot machine, where you can spin for either. An experiment in escapism.

Get Cook and Drunk–My friend Audrey and I make up recipes and record the results. Things start out sober and organized (add 1tsp baking soda to the dry mix) and end up less so (find something interesting in the fridge. Add a handful).

Pictures of Us by Famous People –My friend Kirsten and I have run into some famous people. We asked them to take our picture. They’re not in the shot.

Lobster Cell Phone –Seen Salvador Dali’s Lobster Phone, a plastic lobster glued to an old rotary telephone? We’re all carying these generic, expressionless phones around, why aren’t we hot gluing our personality onto them?

UnTrending –The reverse of trendwatching

Greenlight That Shit –There are some terrible things out there that took money to produce. Pointing a finger at them and asking, who gave that the greenlight?

Hello hello! I create content to engage people in all levels of a sustainable lifestyle and show how to take action through localized resources, interactive impact calculators, and the social aspects that make it all fun. There is a lot of generalized green living information out there, but it's the ability to act at home and with your community, and the emotional incentive to do so, that I work in. If you work in digital storytelling, environmental education, or sustainable travel, I'd like to know who you are, too. Twitter is best, but email is good also.
